This is an inspiring and insightful portrayal of swamis—those mysterious "masters of Self" who have fascinated us for centuries. Boyd portrays these astonishing men as he personally experienced them. Their teachings, amazing mental powers, and very human personalities are explored with enthusiasm, humor, respect, and penetrating curiosity.

As Swami Ramas personal assistant at the Menninger Foundation, Boyd witnessed Swamijis ability to alter his heartbeat and body temperature at will, and also gained vital insights into his philosophy and personality. Boyd relates his travels to the rock caves, ashrams, and university labs of India, providing captivating portraits of the swamis, babas, and yogis he encountered on his journeys.
